The camp in Netflix’s One Day at a Time Season 2 trailer reaches Hipster level. Yet, the 70’s series reboot is fresh, funny, and relatable.

Fans are thrilled to hear the show’s getting another season, and Netflix has announced the release date. Celebrating the inspiration for this perfectly-tuned reimagining of their 1970s classic namesake, they’ve taken the teaser all the way back to their roots.

But if you’re new to this show, the teaser and trailer are somewhat misleading. because the show is anything but campy.

One Day at a Time, Season 2, debuts on January 26th, and fans are ecstatic. For good reason.

Sitcoms may be a dime a dozen, but this one stands out from the crowd. It is genuinely funny and real. Not to mention its high fan ratings on IMDB, earning an “average of 8.1 out of 10.” Though many critics seem to have found something to dislike, the reviews are overwhelmingly positive.

Oh, and it features a strong, complex female lead. Not to mention quite a few female leading roles. So, there is that, too. It is really cool to see a female-heavy cast do well – and great that Netflix is giving more shows like this a platform.

Here is the official announcement of Season Two, followed by the throwback teaser:

Below is the trailer for season 2, but stick around to see a taste of the real show, below, if you haven’t seen it before. You will also find the original trailer at the end of this article.

It is hard to find a show the whole family will watch together. Harder still is to find shows that deal frankly with strong, minority, women heads of household. Or, women soldiers living the same reintegration into everyday life as the men they served beside.

All of which, this show delivers, with a loud, boisterous Cuban-flavored sass.

Some watching this trailer, if they are unfamiliar with the show may ask – is the show filmed in that genre? The answer is an emphatic no, it’s not. But you are going to have to see a little more of the best moments of Season 1 for yourself. For some of you this is a refresher, for others a primer – enjoy!

Justina Machado plays Penelope Alvarez a vet, mom, and single parent leading a house full of three generations of a Cuban family. She has two children, a “tween” son played by Marcel Ruiz and an activist teen daughter played by Isabella Gomez. In addition, Penelope’s mother, played by Rita Moreno, is the eccentric, old-school Cuban-American grandma.

The jokes keep rolling, the grit keeps showing, and the love keeps rolling in this engaging family show. Season 2 looks to continue bringing the highly rated show home for its fans, and we can’t wait.
