We just got word that there may not be a season 8 of Orange Is The New Black and it’s terrifying knowing that we may no have the series to binge watch in a weekend to find out what happens next. This is the show that everyone waited months to watch and then watched it over the span of three days. But what are we going to do if season 7 is the end? Just to warn you, if you’re not caught up, stop reading when you get to “Season 5”.
What We’ve Heard
It’s been said that OITNB creator, Jenji Kohan, has said that the show could possibly end after season 7.
Kohan said, “I haven’t made a final decision yet, but I’m leaning toward ending it after seven — although the nature of the show is one that can go on and on because you can bring in new people,” she told the outlet, adding that she has an ending in mind, but was unwilling to share.”
There has been no formal letter or press release that the show will end, but once those words are spoken, there is no taking them back.
MAJOR SPOILERS- DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN’T WATCH SEASON 5.
In season five, we see the inmates suffering emotionally from the death of Poussey, which happened at the end of season four. At the end of season four we see Daya holding a gun to C.O. Humphrey.
This starts the riot of the century at Litchfield. The inmates have three days of freedom to change their destiny and be heard by the big wigs at Litchfield. Their decisions that they make will determine what happens with their future.
Their sentences will have obviously have extra time on them, but have they changed the way that inmates will live for the rest of time.
The SWAT team first kills C.O. Piscatella when he is trying to surrender to them and the rookie SWAT member accidentally shoots him with the pepper bullet. The season ends with a cliffhanger as the ladies in the Freida’s pit are found by the SWAT team.
Waiting for Season 6
As season five ends with the ladies in the pit and the SWAT team is surrounding them. Will they get out alive? How will the higher ups feel about C.O. Piscatella’s death? Will the inmates get their wishes and demands met that they made to end the riot even if it was forcefully ended by the SWAT team showing up? All of these questions will be answered in season 6.
There is nothing written in stone saying that the show will be coming to an end at the end of season 7, but the news that it’s even in question is quite strikingly sad. We will later find out if the news from the Kohan is true. With season five just premiered, we’ve still got time to process this news. Tell us what you think about this news! We love hearing from you.
