Fans of Glee and Scream Queens brace yourselves for The Politician, starring Ben Platt, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Barbra Streisand. Netflix just inked a deal with Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Ian Brennan, the creators of these modern classics.

While we don’t have the details, Entertainment Weekly reports they’ve signed up for two seasons. Ben Platt, the Tony Award-winning singer and actor from the Pitch Perfect films, has been cast in the title role. Platt stars as a wealthy young man from California with political ambitions. Oh, and The Politician will feature him in some musical numbers.

The Murphy-Falchuk-Brennan team are known for giving novice actors and writers a start, and tapping A-list talent as well. This is no exception. Rumor has it, Paltrow’s also the producer, and the legendary Streisand’s stepping behind the camera to direct.

Murphy and his team are notoriously hush-hush about their upcoming projects, so we don’t know much about The Politician yet. The creative team is said to be writing as we speak, and production is scheduled to begin late summer.

While we’re waiting for The Politician to hit Netflix, Murphy’s got something else coming down the pike in mid-2018… A One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest prequel called Ratched, starring Murphy regular Sarah Poulson. This should keep us binge watching until The Politician comes out.

Stay tuned.
