It’s no secret that Star Wars has not only taken over our hearts, but it’s become a defining moment in history for many. It has shaped us and pretty much created an entire culture. We all know about the Potterheads and those obsessed with Lord of the Rings, but Star Wars was the original obsession when it comes to nerd nation. This doesn’t leave much room for surprise when it comes to what we’re about to discuss, now does it?

The Petition

Fans are requesting a more mature turn to Star Wars since Star Wars: The Clone Wars is the only thing Star Wars related available on Netflix. Think about it, Star Wars: The Old Republic… Taking it back to before the original trilogy even took place. The petition to make this happen is requesting that Netflix picks up the show to produce and create it.

Once the petition has been signed by 200,000 people, it will be delivered to The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm, LTD. for review in hopes that they will pick it up to back Netflix.

The History

The Old Republic takes place before the original trilogy, it covers the 3,000 years prior to the beginning of the trilogy. We see the creation of the Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic. It’s just the start of the rivalry between the Sith lord and the Jedi. Seems pretty important… Which is why fans believe that it is necessary to have a dialog written about it. Why not go back to where it started to get the full story? After all, it is a pertinent part of the storyline.

Why Netflix?

The mode of transportation that the fans wish this to be delivered? Netflix, of course! Why was Netflix chosen? Netflix has been home to many Netflix originals, like 13 Reasons Why, Stranger Things, and Orange is the New Black. The fans have entrusted Netflix to produce the show for this exact reason knowing that they’ve created tons of other hot shows. They’ve also got the platform to do so.

If you really want to see a change, you can sign the petition yourself. The petition is so close to having enough signatures on it at around 190,000 names attached. Ten thousand more and we may see progress! Do you want to sign the petition in hopes that it will take? Why stop at 200,000 when we can show them that there are tons of people interested in this! Sign the petition here.

Will this ever happen? We won’t know until the petition reaches 200,000. Once the petition has reached it’s max number of names petitioning for Star Wars: The Old Republic to make an appearance on Netflix, then and only then it will go to The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm, LTD. for review. What do you think about this petition? Is it worth the fight? Do you think it will ever happen? Will this go to the top of your list if it does ever come to Netflix? Let us know what you think!

Update (As of June 2017)

Back in May, the petition needed just over 10,000 more signatures. Today, that petition needs just under 4,000. It’s amazing what less that a months worth of time can do, right?
