‘Master of None’  joins the Netflix Originals Line Up

Sharing the Comedy Spotlight with

Gracie and Frankie, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and The Ranch

Master of None has joined Netflix Original Comedies!   It was released for streaming in 2015 and was renewed for a second season.  Aziz Ansar co-created (along with Alan Yang) and stars as the lead character Dev, a 30 year old actor in New York City.

The premise of the show follows a 30 year old Dev,(an Indian American)  through stages of the single life:  hooking up, to having kids or not,  dating, finding jobs and friendship.  It takes a look at the ordinary mundane days  and gives them a  fresh new way to look at it.

“Master of None” Cast

  • Aziz Ansari as Dev Shah, 30 year old Indian American Actor
  • Noel Wells as Rachel , Dev’s primary love interest and on again, off again relationship
  • Eric Wareheim as Arnold Baumheiser, Dev’s “token white friend”
  • Kelvin Yu as Brian Cheng Dev’s super cool, good looking friend.
  • Lena Waithe as Denise Dev’s lesbian friend

Ansari is a smart and engaging presence and his perspective on things lends itself very well to this type of single-camera comedy. And his supporting cast, particularly Wells, is on point.

The series has been nominated for Critic’s Choice Television Award for the Best Actor in a Comedy Series and Best Comedy Series where it won in 2015.

Master of None has received  a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is uncommon on the site.  If you haven’t seen this series yet I would recommend it.  Watching it for the first time I found myself laughing and thinking “I never thought of that” it is so funny!   You can also catch Aziz Ansari stand up comedy on Netflix!
