In her directorial debut, funny lady Amy Poehler will harness the wit of her fellow Saturday Night Live alumni in a new movie from Netflix. Wine Country will feature a cast and crew of SNL greats.
The story will follow a group of friends as they gather to celebrate a 50th birthday in Napa Valley. And from the list of cast and crew, Poehler is leveraging some very serious talent.
With all the writers and comedians from the long-running SNL, it’s practically a class reunion!
Amy Poehler stars and directs.
Amy Poehler is best known as an SNL alum, but she has a host of production credits on her resume. Her feel for comedy stands out in Parks and Recreation, Broad City, and Difficult People. Just a few of the great TV series Poehler has produced.
Poehler has appeared in a number of hit TV shows and movies, including Parks and Recreation, Welcome to Sweden, and Wet Hot American Summer.
Poehler has also taken home a number of Golden Globe, Primetime Emmys, and American Comedy Awards.
During her eight season on Saturday Night Live (2001 to 2009), the impact that she and her co-star Tina Fey had as Weekend Update anchors have had on women in comedy is a true legacy.

Supporting cast of SNL greats.
Speaking of SNL alum, Tina Fey will be on board, though in what capacity remains unclear. Known also for her fantastic comedic writing chops, Fey has entertained audiences with scripts for shows like 30 Rock, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and the hit movie Mean Girls.
Other SNL alum includes Maya Rudolph, who worked on the late-night comedy sketch show until 2016. Rudolph frequently lends her voice over skills to TV series Big Mouth.
Also onboard for Wine Country is Rachel Dratch, another SNL alum. Dratch has been doing voice acting, too, including The Awesomes, Nature Cat, and Bob’s Burgers.
Ana Gasteyer, on SNL from 1996 to 2012, and Paula Pell, former SNL head writer and actor, have also been tapped to appear.
Parks and Rec alum joins cast.
Along with a host of former coworkers from SNL, the onboarding of Jason Schwartzman was announced recently. Schwartzman worked with Poehler on Parks and Recreation, playing Dennis Lerpis, the owner of a Pawnee video store. They also worked together on Wet Hot American Summer Netflix TV series.
Netflix’s Amazing Announcement
Netflix made the announcement on Twitter with a heartwarming clip of the ladies hanging out. Our guess is that they’re taking the research component of the show seriously.

Needless to say, fans were delighted by the announcement.
This is maybe the most effective movie preview I have ever seen. Go ahead and deduct the money from my account already, Netflix.

Crew for Wine Country
Poehler’s production company, Paper Kite Productions, is putting the project together, with Poehler herself producing and directing the movie. Her script crew is just as impressive as the cast. Award-winning SNL writers Liz Cackowski and Emily Spivey team up on the script.
The new comedy from Netflix, Wine Country began filming in March in Los Angeles, and will then head to location in Napa Valley. As one of the top wine-producing regions on the planet, the name Napa Valley evokes images of endless vineyards. A very fitting location.
