The 15 Best Chick Flicks Movies To Watch For A Fun Girls Night

We’ve all seen one. A movie that made us laugh and cry and jealous and hopeful all in about two hours. Chick flicks are Hollywood’s response to demographic statistics.

According to the Motion Picture Association of America, 52% of moviegoers are women. It makes sense to appeal to a large portion of this significant market base.

Chick flicks are a huge money maker, particularly around Valentine’s Day when movie sales are typically lower. But what is a chick flick? What universal characteristics can you expect to see in one? And which are the best films in the genre for having a girls’ night in?

What Is a Chick Flick?

Coined by Brian Callaghan in Montreal, Canada in the mid-1970s, the term “chick flick” did not really enter mainstream media until the 1980s or 1990s. A chick flick refers to a film written for females and featuring themes Hollywood thinks they want to see like respect, compassion and love.

This genre is also cheekily known as “guy cry” because men often roll their eyes at these films and find the tropes boring. But that’s why we have this genre.

For those of us without sisters, we have films who understand our deepest desires and allow us to fantasize about what could be every once in a while when we are feeling down.

Characteristics of a Chick Flick

You can identify a chick flick’s poster easily. It will invariably contain pink, colorful and fancy letters, the female protagonist in the foreground and the male love interest in the background. As for the films themselves, they all have a female protagonist embroiled in conflict, fighting through a struggle in their lives.

They also always seem to have a characteristically flawed male love interest. All chick flicks have a happy ending, often with the strong, independent female lead rebuffing the advances of the love interest in favor of self-empowerment and personal redemption.

Sometimes we just want to hang out with our girlfriends and have a quiet night in watching chick flicks. But what are the best ones to watch? Here we review the top 10 chick flicks to watch for a girls’ night in.

Paper Towns | Official Trailer [HD] | 20th Century FOX

The movie starts off with her recruiting him to play pranks on fellow students who did her wrong, but it develops into a smart, emotional movie. Margo goes missing and Quentin has to recruit the help of some friends to follow clues she left behind to find her.

If you thought The Fault In Our Stars was too emotional and heavy, you will love this film.

12. Crazy, Stupid Love (2011)

Crazy, Stupid, Love. Official Trailer #1 - (2011) HD

“Crazy, Stupid, Love” is currently streaming on Netflix. You can also purchase the film on Apple iTunes, Vudu, and Google Play Movies. If you prefer to watch the movie, you can rent it on Amazon Video.

Crazy, Stupid, Love has received generally positive reviews. The movie will surely be a hit, especially if it catches you off guard.

As an ensemble film, Crazy, Stupid Love is better suited to a small group of characters than an elongated cast of large-scale productions. In addition, the narrative connective tissue is more firm in Crazy, Stupid Love, and its script tends to focus on some characters more than others. Because of its limited cast and narrative focus, the movie often focuses on one couple, while other couples get a lot of screen time. The screenplay, written by Dan Fogelman and John Requa, is less a classic than it was supposed to be.

Crazy, Stupid Love is an American romantic comedy film, directed by Glenn Ficarra and written by Dan Fogelman. The film stars Ryan Gosling, Steve Carell, Julia Moore, Kevin Bacon, Emma Stone, and Josh Groban. The story follows a recently divorced man as he tries to reclaim his manhood and pick up women again.

It also features a number of celebrities who have continued to rise in their careers, including Ryan Gosling and Julianne Moore.

The 1988 film Beaches, directed by Garry Marshall and based on a novel by Iris R. Dart, is a classic example. It details the friendship between Cecelia “CC” Bloom and Hillary Whitney, an actress. They are nick-named “Bertie” and “Roberta White.”

14. The Parent Trap (1961 & 1998)

The Parent Trap (1998) Trailer #1 | Movieclips Classic Trailers

It’s no secret that “The Parent Trap” is a classic. This romantic comedy is not only a feel-good comedy, but it’s also a morals lesson about the importance of having a good relationship. It deviates from the usual chick-flick formula, but still retains all of the basic components that make it an enjoyable family film.

While it might lack a bit of humour, it is far more entertaining than Bumble.

The film’s charm is timeless. Hallie is even dressed as Annie in some scenes. In fact, the movie is so well-made that the London scenes with Annie and Nick were specifically made to look like a classic ’60s comedy.

The parents, on the other hand, may be in love with each other as well.

The story of The Parent Trap dates back to the 1930s, but its style embraces the best parts of that period. While the 1961 version was nominated for two Oscars, the 1998 version is a more popular movie today. This is because the 1961 version is very much of its time and can seem a little dated over time. However, the 1998 version embraces its classic style and respects its target audience.

Stu is suspicious about Chuck’s pattern of marriages. Meanwhile, Cam, who has just turned down the offer of dinner, finds out that Chuck fixes Cam’s tooth. The movie’s sequel focuses on Cam’s love life.

Whether you’re a teenager or just a parent, A Cinderella Story is a great movie for the whole family.
